We Watch The Watchmen!

So not only did i read the wonderful graphic novel Watchmen but i also went and viewed that movie the night it released. I found to movie to be very good but i did have a few things that bothered me about it. I found the book to be overwhelming excellent. It had additional background information and stories in which pulled the reader deeper into the story. I also had a convo with a super cool female by the name of Taylor C. on the book and the movie.

KidKurb: Ight so i know that u went to see Watchmen..... How what did u think of it.... oh yea n i got the book n read it before i saw the movie

Taylor C: I thought the movie was ok. Parts of it, like the 1st fight scene with The Comedian were AMAZING...and the watchmaker chapter...amazing! A lot of things were handled sooo well, but it was too much, the film felt long. The characters/some dialogue/the tone of Watchmens pretty surreal and almost inhuman sometimes--so it wasnt really believable for me on film. Ummm..I kinda think I would have liked the movie better if I didnt already know what was going to happen lol---with action movies i enjoy not knowing whats going to happen next! That way the ending would have meant alot to me like it did when i read the book.
Oh...BUT THE VIOLENCE WENT HARD!! I loved it. A lot. And Jackie Earle Haley was born to play Rorschach, i loved him......Mathew Goode as Ozymandias was kinda wack to me tho.
I missed The Black Freighter. It was a good idea not to include it in the movie, but the parallel stories added so much depth for me in the book.
I kinda wanna see it again....some of it at least.

KidKurb: yea i completely understand what i mean by the movie would've meant more if i didn't already know what was going to happen in the end..... plus on top of that i found myself being bothered by little things such as the percentage that they said about Dr. Manhattan being able to destroy nuclear warheads was different in the book along with the funeral b/c it was actually at night n not during the day n the scene with the burning building. Oh n the sex scene to come after that was pretty intense due to that fact that it was a two box spread.... her getting naked n then her laying there naked talking to him.... plus the whole thing with them making the ending not as bloody n shit just b/c they felt as though they would bring a reminder of 911 kinda made me a little pissed.... n yea the extra stories n more extensive backgrounds of people really did make the book so much better. N yea Jackie Earle Haley was definitely born to play Rorschach..... But oh how i am pissed that they made him go out like a G'd bitch in the movie.... he definitely didn't take off his mask n have tears running down his face when he told Doc to off him..... he just looked n told him to do it.... n it was really long which i did not expect. I think that they did a really do job with picking what they felt as though was necessary to explain the story. I really just cant wait for the DVD release with all the added bonuses and everything but that's prob definitely not going to be for about a good 9-10 months from now if that. And all the true fighting scenes were Epic. The one thing that i do wish that they included was what Hollis stood for... i just feel as they kinda played him. And i wouldn't mind seeing it again either.

Taylor C: LMAO! YEAH when Rorschach started crying my jaw dropped like WTF, but im looking thru my copy right now and he did take his mask off...and he did have tears...wow. Lol But Niteowl's "NOOOOOO" right after was DEF not in the book....i hated that part it felt so fake, cuz that nigga didnt care that damn much about Rorschach. A lot of things annoyed me....it almost felt like the movie tried to hard. The sex scene def bothered me because it was too long and I felt like the movie was trying WAY TOO HARD to please the nerds (who prob loved seeing Laurie's boobs/ass but whatever).
The less bloody ending did bother me...but I understand why they cut the squid out---that woulda confused the hell out of everyone and made the movie longer. But they could have showed a lot more than fuckin property damage!

KidKurb: damn i dont remember the Rorschach taking off the mask at all.... neither the tears. I wouldn't say that Niteowl didn't care that much for the fake that he was actually a really nice guy.... he was definitely the coolest one n level headed but that NOOOOOOOOOO was extreme... it just seem really forced.... i think he would have been like OMG Rorschach but not that NOOOOO lol. Yea the sex scene did go hard... nigga had the slow motion humps goin on and some more stuff.... i mean Laurie is pretty but like damn it felt a little amateurish soft-porn like LOL.... yea like i knew that they wouldn't do the ending like the book bc that shit was EXTREME.... nigga's laid out n blood covering everything n shit.... just like u said.... FUCKIN PROPERTY DAMAGE.... at least let the ashes of the nigga's who died be floating in the air or a splash of some blood somewhere.... i was like ight giant hole.... thumbs up!
